World Red Crescent Day: PRCS eyes five million volunteers by 2016 09 may 2014

The Pakistan Red Crescent Society (PRCS) on Thursday said that it will increase the number of volunteers to five million by 2016.
This was announced at a volunteers award ceremony held in connection with the World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day here, said a press release.
The chief guest, State Minister for National Health Services Saira Afzal Tarar said that volunteerism for the welfare of the community is a noble endeavor and all those engaged in it deserve to be commended for their selflessness.
She said that PRCS being a leading humanitarian organization has effectively responded to all disasters in the recent past through its dedicated volunteers.
PRCS Chairman Dr Saeed Elahi said that the Red Crescent provides a channel for those who want to make a difference in someone’s life. He said the society has decided to raise the number of volunteers from 253,000 to 5 million by 2016.
The chief guest distributed shields and certificates among the volunteers for their services in Awaran Earthquake and Thar operations. A documentary was also screened.
